What book has stuck with you?

A book series that I will always remember is Captain Underpants. It has been over 7 years since I read the first one. These books were the only ones that I actually enjoyed reading. I liked them so much because the story was about kids my age, who always played pranks, and a superhero. It had alot of comedy in it which kept me from getting bored. It truely was a great series.

  1. I find books similar to these ones interesting as well. I think that we enjoy the literature that we are assigned to read in high school but we would much rather read books that we not only enjoy but LOVE to read.

  2. Yeah this goes back to what we were talking about literary merit. We like the high school books because they are deep and fulfilling. But nothing is quite the same as the awesome flip-pages of something as simple as Captain Underpants. =P

  4. It seems like the last book I truly gave a chance was Grapes of Wrath. When we checked out the book and saw the size of it I thought, another giant book that i am not going to read. But for some reason I started to read it and actually got very into it. The family was so interesting and resilient and the conflicts they encountered were so well described that it felt like you were watching them second hand. One of my favorites -Richard H

  5. For me, what really struck me was Lord of Flies by Goldings, which I believe we all read in sophomore honors English class, if you had Mr.Weidman. I've never realized that a violent, disturbing story and characters in the book would reveal so much truth about human being. That's when I started distinguishing books with "literary merit" and those for pure entertainment. Now I find "school books" that we read in class very exciting because they always have some kind of meaning behind little details that we easily overlook.

  6. Growing up, I read tons of books. Yeah, I read the Junie B Jones books and A Series of Unfortunate Events, but those weren't the ones that made impacts. Not until I got into high school did I start to read books that actually meant something to me and that have stuck with me since I've read them. The first one was The Lovely Bones. It kept me hooked the whole way through, not to mention triggering almost all of my emotions. The next was The Things They Carried. I'm usually not one for war stories, but this one, this one was different. The way O'Brian got across the idea of having to carry both literal and figurative burdens was excellent. But I have to say, my favorite book that I have read up until now is a three-way tie between Summerland, Water for Elephants, and The Great Gatsby.

  7. When I read this the only thing I could think of was how random it actually was. Once I got passed the random aspects of it, I realized it brought back the memories of elemtary school when books like these were all that comprised kids of that age, its funny how things have changed in such a short amount of time.

  8. A book that has stuck with me was A Separate Peace. I read it in Ms. Bullard's freshman honors English class. There was something about it that kept me anxious to read more. I actually felt as though I was feeling everything that the characters felt. So now whenever I read a book, I hope for that same reaction.

  9. Captain Underpants was a series I loved reading too. The text was arranged in a comic book like fashion and made it fun to read. A Series of Unfortunate Events was a series I enjoyed reading in elementary and junior high school. They were extremely weird but always fascinated me. I was thrilled when they came out with the movie.

  10. If I had to pick a bok that has stuck with me through out the years, it probably wouldn't be that hard considering I hate reading. But, the great gatsby surely would have to be my favorite.

  11. This is a pretty cool post :) A book series that has stuck with me is the Berenstein Bears. I remember my mom buying us one of those from time to time and we eventually gathered a collection. As lame as it sounds those books taught me a lot about friends and family, and growing up. They were tons of fun to read too! Good times :)

  12. In elementary through middle school, back when i actually read books for fun, i really enjoyed the Inheritance series. Not only did the subject matter instantly hook me, but I was amazed that the author was only 15 years old. He was able to become a famous author and make millions of dollars doing something he loved at such a young age. The books that he wrote still interest me today and I can hardly wait for the last book in the cycle to come out- it should be amazing!

  14. Books from elementary school were the best. The Series of Unfortunate Events, The Babysitter's Club, the beginnings of Harry Potter. Elementary school probably set the foundation for my love of reading for personal enjoyment. Oh how much I miss those days!

  17. Books that have stuck with me? To be honest there are more than I care to mention. I remember almost every book I've ever read, and that makes thousands, but the most significant books that I have read in life were mostly read in high school. To Kill a Mockingbird is probably one of my most favorite books of all time. I enjoy reading books from that time period, even though they usually end with a black man being wrongfully convicted of a crime and dying. I think what made the book so interesting to me was that it was told from the perspective of a white person. Usually in books like this, the author makes you hate the white people in the novel because they are evil and oppressive in their treatment of Black Americans. However, this book told the story of a young, white girl who is just beginning to realize the evil and unfairness in the world. I've read this book several times and I like to imagine Scout Finch after the book, as an older woman. I like to think that she would have joined the civil rights movement. I often see her as one of the few white people in the crowd of African-Americans waving signs and protesting the crimes of her people.

  21. Most of the books that I have read in school have actually stuck with me. Surprisingly I dislike most of the books as we read them but after the studying of it is finished, I seem to always remember them. Homer's The Illiad and Chinua Achibe's Things Fall Apart always seem to cross my mind. However, Harry Potter does too haha.

  22. For some reason, i did not enjoy any books during my Senior year. They all seemed pointless and lackluster. Hopefully college will be more interesting.

  23. The Things They Carried, because that book was very deep and complex.
I don't think I could ever fully analyze that novel.
